Honduras Defeat Canada On Heavy Pitch In Nations League

Goals from Kevin Lopez and Kervin Arriaga saw Honduras defeat Canada at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano last night. Jonathan David got the Canadian consolation while full-back Alistair Johnston was sent-off in stoppage-time for a second yellow card.

Head coach John Herdman made 3 changes from Thursday’s 4-0 home win against Curacao as Richie Laryea would return at full-back, Junior Hoilett came in on the left while Ike Ugbo started up front as Sam Adekugbe, Cyle Larin and David all dropped down to the bench.

The hosts took the lead in the 13th minute as Quioto’s left-sided cross was converted by Kevin Lopez from 12 yards out with Hoilett having the best chance for Canada in the first half a few minutes later but shot straight at Luis Lopez.

They would double the lead in the 78th minute with Arriaga turning in a cross from substitute Edwin Solano’s cross minutes after taking the field before the visitors got one back with 4 minutes to play as substitute Larin would play the ball through to David who rolled it past Lopez.

The next games in this competition see Canada travel to Curacao on 25th March 2023 before the two sides meet again in Honduras’ final game 3 days later.
